Why this exists
Issue #478 is the umbrella for making the PWA a first-class product. This Discussion asks what the browser product should be uniquely best at, rather than treating it as only a desktop fallback.
Current state
WorldScript Studio can combine zero-install access, offline-first persistence, browser-local AI, mobile capture, an installed shell, local files, multi-tab workflows, progressive enhancement, and rapid safe updates. The challenge is choosing a coherent promise and preserving data integrity while native products evolve.
Product decision space
Please weigh zero-install reach, offline-first behavior, local AI, mobile/capture, installed-PWA affordances, local files, multi-tab coordination, progressive enhancement, and rapid safe updates. Also discuss where a native product is genuinely better, such as deeper filesystem integration, packaging, or platform-specific workflows.
Role perspectives
Role-perspective note: The viewpoints below are maintainer-curated, AI-assisted design lenses. They are not separate community members, votes, or evidence of consensus.
- 🌐 PWA-first user: immediate access, portability, offline continuity, and safe updates.
- 🖥️ Native desktop user: dependable local files, integration, long sessions, and platform affordances.
- 📱 Mobile writer: capture, quick editing, touch/focus behavior, and continuity across devices.
- ⚡ Performance: startup, memory, network independence, model footprint, and predictable degradation.
- 🧭 Product strategy: a distinct browser value proposition with clear boundaries for native investment.
Questions for the community
- Which PWA strengths would make WorldScript Studio irreplaceable?
- What should work offline or with weak connectivity by default?
- Which local AI, capture, file, or multi-tab capabilities belong in the core promise?
- Where is native genuinely better, and where would it only duplicate the PWA?
- What progressive enhancement should be visible rather than silently changing behavior?
Relationship to implementation
This Discussion is product exploration under #478. Related issues may remain their own implementation trackers, but this Discussion does not change their priorities, roadmap admission, acceptance criteria, or execution sequencing.
