The Linux bridge is an amazing feat, with built-in support for IGMP/MLD snooping, even acting as querier. Yet there are situations when the bridge's features aren't enough.

The mcd project is a fork off the querierd project, which in turn was based on bridged (and mrouted). The intention of the fork is to fix major bugs and add MLD querier support.
