Hi there,
We are currently using the Nutrient Web SDK (formerly PSPDFKit) in our SaaS application. We have been using it for almost a year but the licensing cost is already significant and will only increase , so we are actively evaluating EmbedPDF as our open source alternative.
Before committing, I wanted to reach out to the community with a few questions:
-
Has anyone successfully migrated from Nutrient to EmbedPDF?
We're particularly interested in real-world experience. What went smoothly, what didn't, and any gotchas to watch out for. -
Annotation migration from Instant JSON format
Our main concern is migrating existing annotations stored in Nutrient's proprietary Instant JSON format. Specifically:
- Is there an existing converter or utility to transform Instant JSON annotations into EmbedPDF's annotation format?
- Which annotation types are fully supported (highlight, ink, free text, sticky notes, shapes, stamps)?
- Are there any known limitations or annotation types that don't have a direct equivalent?
- PDF standard annotations compatibility
For documents where annotations are embedded directly in the PDF (not stored externally), can EmbedPDF read and edit them without any conversion?
Any feedback from people who have gone through this migration would be extremely valuable. Thanks in advance!
