Hi Fred,
As requested, here are a few suggestions form improvement of this fact sheet based on some of CartONG's MDC experience:
#How to Select a Mobile Data Collection Tool or Platform?
- I remember seeing guidance on the Digital Principles page on this in the past, but perhaps a direct link would help (the link I had no longer works- https://digitalprinciples.org/resource/howto-choose-mobile-data-collection-plaform/)
- It depends what you want to highlight as differentiating factors, but if you are interested in data protection / user experience / data quality in particular which I suppose for this audience is of interest, you can also reference this 2021 benchmarking that we did, comparing tools like Kobo, ONA, ODK, CommCare, SurveyCTO: https://www.im-portal.org/help-library/benchmarking-of-mobile-data-collection-solutions-2021
- I would also make a bit more obvious that MDC tools do not work that well for qualitative data (audios and free text can be captured of course, but they are not set up in such tools for easy analysis)
- We also have a page helping figure out how to choose a tool in our MDC toolkit if you find it useful, https://cartong.pages.gitlab.cartong.org/learning-corner/en/4_preparation_mdc/4_1_software/4_1_1_tool (and also many other sections that could be of interest, but hard for me to say specifically which as it depends on what you want to highlight)
#Legal Aspects
If you are interested in sharing more resources on the data protection side, we have a toolbox specifically on this: https://cartong.pages.gitlab.cartong.org/learning-corner/en/intro_responsible_data, with some FAQ, a legal pilar, aspects related to respecting the rights of affected populations, also the overview concrete field applications (and many other toolboxes on related topics in our learning corner: https://www.im-portal.org/learning-corner)
#Project Examples/Use Cases
As a use case, this might be a bit old, but a learning pager on the deployment of MDC in Terre des hommes exists if you want to broaden your list: https://www.im-portal.org/lessons-learned-5-years-mdc-tdh-cartong
#Links to Further Sources
Beyond the links above, depending on whether you decide to promote a given tool/or even XLSForms based tools, there are a lot of dedicated resources & documentation on the web that you could highlight.
We have tried for our sector watch to scoure the web to identify interesting resources published by relevant actors, so if you filter on Mobile Data Collection on our resource portal you should find a few more you might find of interest: https://www.im-portal.org/resources-im-portal
I'll leave it at that, but if there is a further topic you would like me to elaborate on based on any of these resources, let me know (at this stage I'm not sure what is of most relevance to you!).
All the best,
Maeve
