Moving from Project Boards to Milestones #3262

We've decided to switch our workflow from using Project Boards to Milestones. Previously issues were triaged and added to the code-server board. Then they were moved between columns such as "Next" and "In Progress.

Instead, we will use the following milestones:

  • "Backlog Candidates" - work that is not yet accepted for the Backlog. We will it after the community weighs in.
  • "Backlog" - work not yet planned for a specific release.
  • "On Deck" - work that is ready to be added to a version milestone.
  • "<0.0.0>" - work planned for said release

See all the milestones here.

Workflow

This means a typical workflow might look like this:

  1. Issue comes in
  2. Maintainer triages issue — adding labels and moving to milestone
  3. "Backlog Candidates" may end up in "Backlog"
  4. "Backlog" issues will eventually end up in "On Deck"
  5. "On Deck" issues will eventually be added to a version milestone
  6. Issues in version milestone will be completed and delivered in version release

Remaining Boards

We plan to keep the 🗺️ Roadmap Board as a place that is separate from general issue triage and to track long-term project priorities.

There are currently 3 boards that exist but all will be merged into one in the near future.
