Idea: Rackula as a Living Rack Documentation Tool #3042

Hi,

First of all, thanks for creating Rackula. I really like its focus on rack planning and the clean, visual interface.

While using it, I started thinking about a possible evolution of the project. Today Rackula is excellent for planning racks, but I think it could also become a great tool for ongoing rack and infrastructure documentation. After all, once you've planned a rack in Rackula, why not just keep it and continue using it as the source of truth instead of having to recreate the documentation elsewhere?

For example, it could support documenting:

• Physical cabling between devices
• Patch panels and their ports
• Cable labels and types (copper, fiber, DAC, etc.)
• Port-to-port connections
• End-to-end cable tracing (e.g. Switch Port → Patch Panel → Wall Outlet → Device)

This wouldn't necessarily require turning Rackula into a full DCIM/IPAM platform like NetBox. Instead, it could remain lightweight and focused on the physical layer—racks, devices, and their connections.

I think there is a gap between simple rack planners and comprehensive infrastructure management tools, and Rackula could fill that space very well.

Would this be something you'd be interested in exploring? If so, I'd be happy to discuss ideas or even contribute.
