Passing a system property at run time

Is it possible to pass a system property at run time a gcj-compiled
application? Esentially I'm looking to pass a -Dfoo=bar option, but
since gij is not in the picture, I have no-one to whom to pass the -D
option.
For one, I was hoping there might be a common config file of system
properties that every Java application loads at startup. This is
probably not the case, but I thought I'd ask.
