Hi Dalibor,
>>>On a side note, is anyone sending trap-smashing talk proposals to next
>>>year's JavaOne?
>>>>>>>>Hm. Up to now I've studiously ignored JavaWhat? on the grounds that it's not a
>>serious conference, just a Sun marketing/self-adoration binge. Is there a
>>real chance of turning it into something else, at least within the confines
>>of our own BOF?
>>>I've never been there, so I can't really say. It does seem to be heavily
>marketing oriented, so I doubt it can be turned into a GCC summit :)
>>It is very marketing oriented, but it is also an event with great
techinical content and where you can find many of the influences of IT
in general, both techinical and management. So I think we should strive
for a presence of the free software Java developers (not just people
from eclipse, apache and jboss, but also classpath, java-gnome and free
software jvms) because most people there has no idea on what's availabe
from the free world and the advantages of using it.
On a side note, it would be nice to have people on the Linux.Java.Net
comunity. I know there a lot of nice (and much better) sites about F/OSS
Java, but Java.Net has a high visibility among people who don't know (or
have the wrong ideas) about the free software movement and so it could
help a lot changing this perception. We have web space for projects,
file serving, CVS, mailing lists and the like. But the main advange is
that people who would not visit planet.classpath.org do visit Java.Net
regularly and anything I post on the Linux community pages makes
Java.Net headlines. And I definitely need a lot of help making the
Linux.Java.Net community to grow up. Id had suffered from managers
without real commitment to Java + free software in general and Linux in
particular.
