using CNI (call compiled java from c++)

Thanks for the info - now I feel silly.
I'm totally up and running!
For the project I'm working on, we have a big open-source Java library
that was hand-converted to c++. Unfortunately, the Java program is
actively improving algorithmically, but the C++ version is still
tracking down bugs/performance problems for the original version. I'm
hoping the GJC will make a good alternative.
As for speed;
The Java version is fastest.
The GJC version is 50% slower than Java.
The C++ version is 300% slower than Java.
