Hi,
The upcoming GCJ 4.0 release is an excellent news for the real-time and
embedded community.
When "time predictability" is important (e.g. games, music/video players,
safety critical systems, etc). JVMs such as HotSpot cannot be trusted and
precompilation is often the only option.
As of today, GCJ in combination with the Javolution
(http://javolution.org) real-time library is still the only (free) Java
solution for high-performance / time critical applications.
Unfortunately, there is no mention of this open-source library from the
GCJ home page and as a result many real-time/embedded applications are
still written in C/C++ when they could have been entirely written in Java.
I think, it would be beneficial if the Javolution library was at least
mentioned from the GCJ home page as a possible "pure Java" solution for
time critical applications using GCJ.
I believe that GCJ and Javolution are a terrific combination to this
regard and complement each others very well.
Best regards,
Jean-Marie Dautelle (Javolution project owner).
