GC Problems...

the heap was increasing, was the value of Runtime.getRuntime().totalMemory() 
- Runtime.getRuntime().freeMemory(). I suppose I should of said heap usage 
was increasing.
My mistake - should be more careful!
I'm increasing convinced that its something to do with using GlobalAlloc 
rather than the alternative - VritualAlloc?.
