building gcj on OS X (also AWT)

I just found a link in the FAQ to this page
http://gcc.gnu.org/java/build-snapshot.html which also contains
a link leading here http://gcc.gnu.org/cvs.html describing what
I need to know (including a comment regarding the "java-gui-branch",
which I'm guessing is the one that Tom mentioned gets merged into
the main line by Graydon once a month or so).
If anyone has any advice or helpful additions/updates to the 2 docs
mentioned above, I'd be grateful to hear about it.
