XWT would do this if it could.
We have graphics classes Surface, Picture, and PixelBuffer. Each
"platform" (Win32 GDI, X11, Darwin OpenGL) implements a subclass of
each of these three classes. There's a method on the
common-superclass called
 static PixelBuffer getPixelBuffer()
 static Picture getPicture()
 static Surface getSurface()
It would eliminate a lot of awkward casting if I could return an
X11Surface/X11Picture/X11PixelBuffer.
It's not a life or death situation, but it would be handy.
