unused constant pool entries

If I use gcj to compile .class -> .o, will unused constantpool entries
in the class file affect the size of the resultant .o?
I would expect not, but I'm just curious. If so I'll run the
classfiles through a decompiler and use the java source code.
Related question: can anybody give me a rough idea of what degree of
possible optimizations are lost by compiling .class -> .o instead of
.java -> .o?
