I think you're right. Embedded systems are also a potential success story for GCJ
(after a bit of additional -- and already ongoing -- "lightweighting").

* SWT guis
* AWT guis (as you pointed out)
* commandline tools
* cgi-bin applications
* inetd, xinetd, and tcpserver applications (serverside transient executables)
* long-running daemons
* embedded systems with constrained resources
* ...
