GNU Crypto has indeed the implementations of the javax.crypto classes
that allows it to be seen/used as a JCE Provider, and hence get
called/used from the GCJ java.security plumbing.
see <http://www.gnu.org/software/gnu-crypto> for what is provided by GNU
Crypto, and <http://http://japi.sab39.org/htmlout/h-jdk14-libgcj.html>
for the latest API compatibility with JDK1.4. the latter should tell
you if we (combined GCJ + Crypto) have (or not) an implementation of
the class(es) you need.
