Gcj closely follows the JDK specifications; and the JDK mandates these
things.
It is quite unfortunate that the JDK is really "bloated by design".
At this point of still rather limited popularity of gcj, I wouldn't recommend
straying too much from the JDK specifications.
As soon as gcj acquires an sufficiently large following, however, I would not mind
pulling the the GNU trick again, and state that "gcj is not java".
Gcj could then perfectly well become the GNU implementation of a specification that
we could call"cj". One the things that cj could specify, is that all JDK bloat must
be removed in order to permit embedded applications, simplify the source base, make
it more easily maintainable, and generally introduce appropriate software development
methods and practices.
