Unfortunately, the Windows based targets just don't seem to be
that worthwhile to the GCC maintainers - the fact that MS
has some really pervert and gross ways of doing things doesn't
help matters at all.
So the MinGW/Cygwin GCC tree has some patches that
haven't made it to the mainline - in fact, only
recently did the full support for ms-bitfields has gone in
into the mainline after almost 2 years of lobbying by the
ReactOS/MinGW/Cygwin developers... :-(
Thankfully, the GCJ part seems to be a lot more receptive and
encouraging to Windows. Thank you guys!

You should browse through the archives of the mingw-devel
list. Either on GeoCrawler or on Gmane:
http://www.geocrawler.com/redir-sf.php3?list=mingw-dvlpr
http://news.gmane.org/thread.php?group=gmane.comp.gnu.mingw.devel
(newsgroup "gmane.comp.gnu.mingw.devel" on newsgroup server
"news.gmane.org" - far more convenient than GC, IMHO.)

See this message (and its followups):
