The hex bug seems to be corrected in the mainline.
The newest snapshot gcc version 3.3 20020909 (experimental)
does not print hex numbers any more.
I could reproduce the bug only with the snapshot
gcc version 3.2.1 20020902 (prerelease).
Everything has been tested on Linux.
