I haven't found documentation either, apart from a short entry
in the glibc NEWS file. Apparently this feature is called
'dynamic string tokens' and originated with Solaris.
glibc currently (since glibc-2.1) supports two such dynamic
string tokens, $ORIGIN and $PLATFORM. So we'd get problems
if an inner class happens to have the name ORIGIN or PLATFORM ...
