Can't debug my xlib changes because gdb gets SIGTRAP in __sigsuspend via _Jv_ThreadWait

I've never seen this, sorry :-(.

You could try running a newer version of gdb.
Or asking for help on the gdb list.
Also, your stack trace is showing the main thread.
What is happening in the other threads?
