If a class doesn't appear on that list, it means either that it
doesn't exist or (as in this case) that it is identical to the
Classpath implementation.

Not in libgcj.
I believe java-gnome works with gcj. And SWT does.
We have a lot of AWT code, just not all of it. The problem you were
seeing is that we don't have a peer implementation in the tree. There
is one in Classpath, but it is incomplete and buggy besides.
