I just tried compiling the node itself, no clients.
The node bit doesn't have those dependencies AFAIKS.

OK,
I checked and an important recent fix:
http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/java-patches/2002-q1/msg00585.html
is in the 3.1 branch so it should work.
