I saw regressions that I thought were memory problems. Per's last
patch fixed things, and now I'm chasing other regressions with my
build-only tests. Since jc1 changed a lot recently, I'm also building
a bare 3.0 tree to test that these regressions aren't showing with a
fresh tree -- if they are and are the same, then this patch could go.
