USENIX Java Virtual Machine Research and Technology Symposium (JVM '01)
Work-in-Progress Session: Call for Papers
Researchers are invited to submit abstracts of new research for
inclusion in an informal Work-in-Progress session at the first
USENIX Java Virtual Machine Research and Technology Symposium (JVM '01),
to be held in Monterey, CA, April 23-24, 2001
( http://www.usenix.org/events/jvm01/ ).
Abstracts of 1-2 pages (inclusive of any figures) should be submitted
electronically to the session chair, Matt Welsh (jvm01wip@usenix.org) by
March 1, 2001 (this is a hard deadline). Abstracts should be in PostScript
or PDF formats, viewable by Ghostview or Acroread. Submissions longer
than 2 pages will not be considered.
Program committee members will select the best abstracts for 10- to 15-minute
talks during the session. This is intended to be a fun, informal session
that will spark ideas and interactions. Topics of interest include all
aspects of Java Virtual Machine technology, including (but not limited to):
* Alternate JVM implementations
* Hardware implementations
* JITs and Execution Engines
* Security and JVM issues
* Garbage Collection techniques
* Small JVM (a la JavaCard)
* Large JVM and Server issues (scalability and availability)
* Porting experience improvements
* Performance issues and tuning techniques
Abstracts should clearly communicate the ideas behind the work, and should
highlight any initial results. Submissions will be selected based on
originality, the importance of the problem addressed, and the potential
for conveying the ideas clearly in a mere ten minutes. Mature work that
has been presented elsewhere in some form is inappropriate, and will not
be considered. Notification of acceptance will be sent by March 20, 2001.
Any questions should be directed to the Work-in-Progress session chair,
Matt Welsh (jvm01wip@usenix.org). Please see the JVM '01 home page
( http://www.usenix.org/events/jvm01/ ) for more details on the symposium.
We look forward to your submissions!
