I get the same result. I think you're seeing the effects of PR 1412, now
that libgcj is compiled with -O2. The workaround is to compile without
-O2 or with -fno-defer-pop.

I reported once that this failure doesn't occur on mainline with -O2. I
don't know if that's still the case.

Who do you suppose could figure this out? It's a very old bug (reported
earlier by Bryce as well), and very annoying. Releasing 3.0 this way
really isn't an option.
