Get an idea of the gcj/libgcj status

I found a little bit difficult to get a precise idea of the state of
the gcj/libgcj project; it seems in a very active developement phase,
but it is not very clear to me exactly what is going on, its
relationship with the classpath projects, and so on ...
So, i imagine that you hear this question every other day, i.e. what
can be actually done with it, and, for what cannot be done, how far it
is in the future; to be more precise, assume as domain a server side
developement, using Java Apache stuff; how far we are from being
able to use the Apache Java stuff with gcj/libgcj ?
Yup, i know, the standard answer to the this kind question is "depend
how much you invest in it"; well, suppose that i can invest on it,
the question still is there: how much should i invest ?
One month ? Six month ? One year ? More ? :->
I would appreciate any comment (private or in the mailing list) on the
subject; i know there is nobody that can give a structured and complete
answer (it is an community project, right ?), so i just expect the
personal feeling of some of you ..
