Your paper present a possible integration between Java and gtk;
i have some questions on the idea; it is not my intention to flame,
take me seriously :->
1) Gnome is more than gtk; what about the rest ?
For example, Bonobo integration thru Corba (IDL or RMI/IIOP) ?
2) Are gtk bindings for Java needed ?
>From one side, this would break compatibility, from the other do
it really bring more functionalities to Java than the AWT ?
What about using 'simply' a gtk based implementation of the AWT ?
3) The exact contrary of the above: is the AWT needed ?
What i really mean is that a possible answer to question 2 is to say:
f**k Sun, let's do Java our way; then adapt to Java the UI
technologies available in the free software world, and don't consider
the standard Java technologies.
Of course, 2 and 3 can be mixed; but i was wandering if behind
the paper there was some kind of discussion.
About swing, i don't know if it is serious, but apparently
there is a GPL implementation of a swing look and feel that
is able to load Gtk and Qt themes; look at:
http://www.L2FProd.com/software/skinlf/index.html
it may be usefull in this framework (ok, still need the swing
code, but then it would may be suggest to implement the standard
pluggable look and feel mechanism).
