Apologies for posting in English
Hello everyone, the Wikidata for Wikimedia projects team is investigating the benefit of adding a new <tag> for a Wikidata item QID into the XML file output from the Special:Export function.

Have you used this function before? If yes, we would like to hear from you.

  • Would adding a new <tag> for a linked Wikidata item (e.g. <wikidataid>) aid you?
  • What types of pages did you export? (article, template, talk etc.)
  • What did you do with the exported content?

Please leave your comments or questions in your preferred language as a reply to this message, thank you. -Danny Benjafield (WMDE) (discuter) 27 novembre 2024 à 17:01 (CET) Répondre

Hi Danny
You should post it at Discussion Projet:Wikidata, even in English.

Shakespeare edit-a-thon article in French

Dernier commentaire : il y a 2 mois 3 commentaires3 participants à la discussion

Hi, sorry for writing in English! Recently we had a Shakespeare-related edit-a-thon in Hungary, and one of the students wrote an article about James Hirsh in French. Can you please check if the subject is notable enough for your project? You can find the article here. Thank you in advance! Bencemac (discuter) 27 décembre 2024 à 18:44 (CET) Répondre

Hello Bencemac.
On wp.fr, a topic requires at least two nationally known independent secondary sources with at least two years between publication (see Wikipédia:Notoriété des personnes, and WP:NSU).
I'm not going to check in detail whether James Hirsh's article qualifies here, but after a short search on Google, it doesn't.
If the only sources are like his biography on the GSU site, that's certainly not enough (it's not an independent source since he works there).
He could have written dozens of books, if no independent secondary source has bothered to talk about him, wp.fr shouldn't either.
Léa Lamielle-Puyraimond should ask for help at the Wikipédia:Forum des nouveaux for a better answer.
Anyway, in its current state, her draft is not ready to be published here, partly because of its layout. See Aide:Comment rédiger un bon article to learn how to write a good article.

Hi,
I would focus on WP:NSU first, which has specific criteria more interesting than the "independent secondary sources with at least two years between publication" given above.
@Léa Lamielle-Puyraimond, an even better place to ask for proofreading is the Wikipédia:Forum de relecture.
An interesting way to check to the notoriety would be to work on the the prices and distinctions this professor received. If they are the top ones on his domain of expertise, it would fulfill the requirements.

Example of Shamate fashion

Hello!

I would like to edit Shamate to include File:Smart_kids-011.jpg. If possible, add it in with the caption "Example of Shamate fashion" translated to French.

Merci beaucoup, QuickQuokka (discuter) 25 janvier 2025 à 18:18 (CET) Répondre

Hi
As you know how to edit, why don't you do it yourself?
The caption would be « Example de mode Shamate ».
Trizek bla 25 janvier 2025 à 19:20 (CET) Répondre
@Trizek: Well, I do know how to edit and add the picture, but I do not speak French, so I wanted an actual French person to do the translation, because I frankly do not trust Google Translate or other machine translation. Thanks for your help! QuickQuokka (discuter) 26 janvier 2025 à 07:12 (CET) Répondre

Incidental exposure of woman’s nipples in article where it is not relevant

[modifier le code ]
Dernier commentaire : il y a 1 mois 7 commentaires4 participants à la discussion
Woman holding a sea urchin in her hand and looking down at it, while topless. This image also incidentally includes her nipples.

(I posted a similar question at sv:Wikipedia:Bybrunnen#Incidental exposure of woman’s nipples in article where it is not relevant.)

This image is included in the article Arbacia lixula, captioned as:

Cet oursin n'est pas dangereux, et peut être manipulé sans risque avec quelques précautions.

Thus her nipples are not relevant, but showing her whole body for context might be useful.

Some users object to even incidental inclusion of such body parts. Wikimedia projects are not censored, by policy, but should not use that as an excuse to include gratuitious nudity. So do you think it would be useful to have a modified version of this image, with the nipples obscured, or does pandering to such concerns send the wrong message? Brianjd (discuter) 28 janvier 2025 à 06:05 (CET) Répondre

Hello Brianjd. I see that you've already received answers on the Swedish Wikipedia.
We have a guideline for offensive content, but I'm not sure that this photo is concerned: you see female nipples everywhere in the encyclopaedia, on history pages, mythology pages, and so on. Here, the image does not highlight these elements, nor is it lascivious. It's simply a woman on vacation, at the beach. Lazulis (discuter) 28 janvier 2025 à 09:13 (CET) Répondre
Hi
I agree with what @Lazulis said regarding offensive contents, and we wouldn't censor nudity. I would strongly oppose anyone wanting to remove images of nudity where it is relevant.
However, we also have guidelines regarding the usage of images. And in this specific case, the article is about the sea urchin. Consequently, the image could focus on the urchin. As a consequence, I don't think anyone would oppose a change of the initial image by this cropped image.
This comment is not an authorization for @Brianjd to start their nipple crusade on other articles, or nitpicking about the current case. I note that you start complaining about the crop, being the only one noticing a tiny bit of a nipple remaining visible. This kind of behavior would not not be accepted here. Breath, and move on, please.
Trizek bla 28 janvier 2025 à 15:20 (CET) Répondre
‘Nipple crusade’? That’s absurd. If I was on such a crusade, I could start plenty of arguments on projects in my own language.
I’m not on such a crusade. I confine my comments to this specific case, of real-life (not artistic) nipples in an article where they are not relevant. Brianjd (discuter) 28 janvier 2025 à 15:51 (CET) Répondre
(Sorry for writing in English. Of course you may answer me in French, but please ping me then)
I wanted to know who @Brianjd is, when he asks like this on both languages. Sorry Brian, but I am totaly against the moralism, and I wrote that on svwp too, therefor I wanted to learn more about you. (I also copy and paste this to svwp).
We all asume he is a moralist, but by looking at his edits on Commons you see he is a very active user. He writes very neutral, see here, about a whale tail picture. Also, here, asking about cathegories where he explicite says a topless sun bathing woman is not erotic. There are of course more examples, but that is not needed.
What I understand after this analysis is that Brian is not on a "nipple crusade" or moralism crusade, but actually was curious how the only two language versions think about this picture, and why. It is a little bit interesting that it just happens to be French and Swedish versions (both known for their openness about the body). I don't know how the picture was added to the french article, but the Swedish was added by the Lsjbot. So it seems to be a genuine question out of pure curiosity, and I respect that and apologizes to Brianjd for my "low aggressive" answer in the beginning on svwp. While I'm not opposing the change of the image, I found this response unconstructive, which made me think (wrongly?) that this was another one of those tedious crusades. Sorry about that, Brianjd. Trizek bla 30 janvier 2025 à 10:04 (CET) Répondre
@Trizek I posted an explanation there. Brianjd (discuter) 30 janvier 2025 à 11:04 (CET) Répondre

Change content language of the Chinese version of Lettre ouverte : non à l'intimidation des contributeurs bénévoles into Chinese

[modifier le code ]
Dernier commentaire : il y a 10 jours 2 commentaires2 participants à la discussion

The Chinese Wikipedia uses LanguageConverter to convert between Simplified and Traditional Chinese. It allows the content to be written in a mixture of both variants, and have them properly converted for all Chinese readers, ensuring content consistency and ease of maintenance. Therefore, I propose to change the content language of Chinese version of Lettre ouverte : non à l'intimidation des contributeurs bénévoles into Chinese to enable this feature. This would allow Simplified Chinese readers to understand the letter easily (not every Simplified readers can understand Traditional Chinese). User:1F616EMO (Retrouvez-moi sur Wikipédia chinois) 1 mars 2025 à 00:54 (CET) Répondre

Hello 1F616EMO.
I used zh:DeepL翻譯 to try to translate it, the result is on Wikipédia:Lettre ouverte : non à l'intimidation des contributeurs bénévoles/zh-Hans.
I renamed the other page Wikipédia:Lettre ouverte : non à l'intimidation des contributeurs bénévoles/zh-Hant and added links to both in the main page in French.
Please check my translation and make any necessary changes, I checked it the best that I could, but I cannot be sure everything is accurate (especially for the translation of proper names and typography).
