Raspberry Pi 3B sporadic power cycling

Mon Apr 07, 2025 9:55 am

Good day,
I have deployed about 130 units Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Rev 1.2 for a telecom operator.
What I observe are sporadic reboots by power cycling.
The units are powerded by a DC/DC converter (TRACO THN 15-4811) with 5V/3A directly via the GPIO header
The primary power source is a telecom 48V supply with batterie backup. So from this point of view the supply voltage should be stable.

Now I read that the official power supply for the 3B has 5.2V because of a HW flaw between the USB power connector and the processor.
My question is now: does this only affect the supply from USB plug or are there any other hidden flaws that might cause this power cycles?

The operating system is Raspbian 11 headless.

The output of 5.1 volt of the official PSU is NOT a "fault" but a design choice. under normal circumstances this will result in 5.0Volt at the PI's regulator, due to normal losses in the USB cable and connectors.
