Thought I had posted here about SSD drives ...
Guys,
As above perhaps I asked in the wrong segment here and it got moved but it doesn't now appear in the list of my posts either.
At my age posts disappearing without comment is alarming. Am I just losing it?
Did I actually make a post about 1Tb SATA SSD casual use only on Pi, Linux and Win10?

You did, but not pi related and neither Windows nor Ubuntu are supported here.

Agreed but I'd also bought the bit from Pi Hut to add it to my Pi5. Was only supplying a bit of context.
Was interested in the recent article in Magpi doing this.
It would actually help in these instances if a courtesy email got sent to my registered address.
Thanks for the confirmation.
As I've commented before, tough audience here.

Just look at the your posts option in the hamburger menu, we do not do e-mailing here much.

Re: Thought I had posted here about SSD drives ...
Guys,
Perhaps to clarify and hopefully before I get erased again ...
I bought a USB3 to SATA converter and 1Tb SATA SSD drive for either my Pi4 or Pi5 thinking of following an article in Magpi. It could just end up on an old Pi3. I then saw written on the drive box that the drive was only suitable for casual intermittent use and sought comment here.
The drive was quoted as qualified for use with Windows and that might have been the trigger for getting deleted, I added that my Windows10 laptop thrashed my current drive solidly for the first hour after boot up which to my mind is way beyond "casual usage".

Perhaps post exactly what you bought including what 'lsusb' shows will help?
IIRC other than Pi mentioned in the subject, the post did not involve the pi at all, only windows and ubuntu.

Re: Thought I had posted here about SSD drives ...
As I outlined above I was asking about an SSD as only specified as for "casual usage". I wanted to avoid naming the SSD manufacturer.
These things are used now on Pi as well as other systems where their history and reliability is well established. These devices are only now getting seriously used on Pi's. I was troubled by the statement on the SSD box that limited it to causal usage and without further clarification.
I clumsily outlined my Win10 laptop thrashed my current HD for an hour each boot-up to illustrate but looking perhaps for reassurance that the Pi would be more gentle. Perhaps brevity in the original post was the mistake and I should have better spelt my point out to satisfy the purists here and avoid getting reported then deleted without further comment.

Without make manufacturer it will be hard to tell you.
Casual Use mean's nothing.
In my eyes
Casual Use would be a backup SSD you plug in every few weeks to read a few documents.
Casual use may also mean as a normal desktop computer and not a fast data crunching constant ssd hammering server.
But who knows.
I would honestly ignore that and assume it mean not a Western Digital Red or Enterprise targeted SSDs.

Weatern Digital Red
Unlike standard SSDs, WD Red NAS SATA SSDs are specifically designed and tested for 24/7 usage. This durability together with efficient caching of big files make these drives ideal for OLTP databases, multi-user environments, photo rendering, 4k and 8k video editing and other demanding applications.
