Hi
The plurals of ܨܒܘܽܬܳܐ (thing) and ܨܠܘܿܬܳܐ (prayer) are respectively ܨܶܒ̈ܘܳܬܳܐ and ܨܠܱ̈ܘܳܬܳܐ. It is clear that when the plurals were formed, the vowel (u and o, respectively) turned into consonants (ܘ in both cases). This resulted in three consonants in a row at the beginning of the word, which is a problem. Why was this problem resolved in different ways in each case? In the former, the epenthetic vowel was inserted between the first two consonants while in the latter it was inserted between the second and third consonants. Furthermore, the quality of the vowel is different, too. What rule, if any, is operating here?
Thank you so much
