forum software upgraded to Xenforo 2.3

I think I have fixed it.

start vi (begin) commencer vi
We're waiting for the movie to start.
On attend que le film commence.
start doing [sth] v expr (begin doing) commencer à faire [qch] loc v
se mettre à faire [qch] v pron
Not a major problem, but probably a new glitch:

I find now that threads begun by a member that I'm "ignoring" show up in the forum pages, so that I unknowingly click on them and I can see the answers but not the original post. Before, ignored members' threads were completely invisible to me.

I'm also having difficulty in posting a link to another thread. Instead of a clickable thread title, an embedded post from the other thread appears. (I'm using a tablet.)

I’m not seeing it fixed yet.

Spanish to English Thread 'tropezar con'

These should be better differentiated because they are two distinct senses. The first one is for an object below, and the second one is for an object in front.

tropezar con vi + prep (topar con el pie) trip on, trip over vi + prep

I'm not sure I would keep the last 2 terms, which are clearly not the same register as "siège".
The very useful 'omega' sign (containing special symbols for many languages)
cannot be obtained any more by clicking on the three vertical dots in the tool bar.
Do you think it can be restored?
The add-on that broke the table formatting also gave us the special characters and symbols, so it is going to be difficult. In the meantime, I plan to provide an alternative.
At the bottom of my entry box I've now got 'Copy:' and a few buttons for common Western European accented letters. Well, no harm in that, but most of us probably want a much bigger range than that. (And it doesn't even cover German or Swedish.) Should that list be there at all?

This is there temporarily till we get something better working.
Overall, it looks like we are in good shape today.

This would be a Xenforo bug that I can't do anything about, and I am not sure if they will fix it.
Hello! You will see that I responded in the moderators' forum. I spent a half hour or more on it and ended up writing the developer in the end. I hope to hear from him soon.
Oops, sorry. I hadn't seen that there was a second/third parallel discussion. And I can't see your response over there either, but thanks for taking care of it! :)
The 'Copy' feature is different for each language. If you go to the German forum and start a message, you will see there is Ö.
It doesn't seem to happen in the Turkish forum. The Turkish uses the Latin alphabet, with six added letters (çşğüıö) and their capital letters (ÇŞĞÜİÖ).

But I just mention this for information. I don't think it matters. The Turkish forum is used less than many others, and anyone who writes things on PCs in Turkish has figured out a way to type these letters.
I changed a few things. Please try the table again. If still not working, tell me exactly what to do to replicate it.
I’m still getting minor issues, where the last table row appears as plain text below the table with the bbtag formatting visible. If you look at the source code, you can see a lot of extra [ td ] and [ /td ] tags, lots of itslics tags, and each table cell has a prescribed width.

The perils of updates....

I occasionally use different font sizes in a post for clarity.

It seems somebody has been working on changing the font size controls, but was called away and left some work undone.

There is a new system for setting font sizes. The larger ones work (15, 18, 22, 26). But nothing happens for me with the new three smaller sizes (9, 10, 12).

The language forums with Reactions now seem to have a ❤️ = like option, as well as :thank you: and .
Was that intentional?
The "ignored members" setup isn't working as well as it used to. If there's an ignored member posting in a thread I am no longer aware of that, so that answers referring to their posts don't make sense.
No, the fault is still there for me.
That might be your browser? For me, sizes 9 and 10 are quite similar, but they are not the same (which becomes clearer if I increase the zoom to >100%). I've checked both Chrome and Firefox, including when I'm logged out, so it's not related to account permissions.

My screenshot:

I've just experienced this. I was quite confused until I remembered veli's comment and realised what was happening.
Just to explain, in case it's unclear...
If Person A is on my Ignore list, then their posts simply disappear, with no indication that there's anything there.
And if Person B quotes Person A's post, the quote also disappears without trace*. So Person B's post appears simply as (for example) "Yes, you're right", with no indication of what or who they're agreeing with.

Before the update, there was always a marker with the person's name and the message You are ignoring content by this member.
--------------------

* I don't know if this happens all the time or just most of the time.
I just realized today that the omega-button that's used for inserting special characters has dropped from the top toolbar to the bottom toolbar.
That's a big problem for me because the bottom toolbar does not work on every system and in every case!

I'm using an English PC with English keyboard and I need that omega-button often to insert 'Umlauts' and special characters in the German forum.
For some members the bottom toolbar seems to work and they see the omega-button there, but I do not! Granted I don't have a cutting edge system (Win7x64 pro with latest firefox browser), but everything worked fine when the omega-button was in the top toolbar. I hope this function will be restored.
On my system the bottom toolbar only shows up in the normal answer pane, but NOT when I quote other messages and NOT in edit mode. That's not a big issue for me as I never use it, but access to the omega-button is.

Thanks,
manfy

I am researching this now and still see the "You are ignoring content by this member" message. For instance, I just ignored @Jektor and his quotes in the posts above don't show.
I just realized that it's impossible to correctly cite an article that contains footnotes.
See this example

Die Bezeichnung Kammerschauspieler (Abkürzung Ksch. oder KS<a href="Kammerschauspieler – Wikipedia" title=""><span>[</span>1<span>]</span></a>) ist ein Berufstitel, der vom österreichischen Bundespräsidenten an hervorragende Schauspieler verliehen wird, ist aber „nach genauester juristischer Prüfung"<a href="Kammerschauspieler – Wikipedia"><span>[</span>2<span>]</span></a> auch ein Ehrentitel, mit dem verdiente Ensemblemitglieder deutscher Bühnen durch Landesminister<a href="Kammerschauspieler – Wikipedia"><span>[</span>3<span>]</span></a>, staatlich-gesellschaftliche<a href="Kammerschauspieler – Wikipedia"><span>[</span>4<span>]</span></a> oder städtische<a href="Kammerschauspieler – Wikipedia" title=""><span>[</span>5<span>]</span></a> Institutionen oder durch das Theater selbst<a href="Kammerschauspieler – Wikipedia"><span>[</span>6<span>]</span></a> ausgezeichnet werden können.

Why would you paste the source’s hyperlinks? Wouldn’t it be better to right-click and Paste As Plain Text or Paste Text Only (depending on your browser)?
Wouldn’t it be better to right-click and Paste As Plain Text or Paste Text Only (depending on your browser)?
I would like to do so but how can I manage that?

When I copy and paste (for instance an article from Wikipedia), all the links are included and I must eliminate them one by one.

Edit: Before the upgrade, the footnotes were visible, too, but just like that [1], [2], [3] ...., not the whole code, i.e. ><span>[</span>2<span>]</span></a> which is very bulky.

If you are using Chrome for Windows to access the forum, right-click in the forum’s Compose Message box and select Paste as plain text. Other browsers use different wording, but all browsers should have a similar function. If you aren’t sure how to do it on your device or with your browser, google "how to paste without formatting with (name your browser or operating system)".

For those of you like @DearPrudence and @Glasguensis who were struggling to paste tables from the dictionary, the temporary workaround is to paste the table and then highlight the last cell in the table, and then use the Clear Formatting toolbar button (the eraser icon) to remove any italics tags from the bottom of the table. Then it should paste correctly.

It seems to be a new Xenforo problem with the decoding of the HTML "span" tag. Links without the "span" tag appear correctly:

(using Firefox browser):

Approximately 1.39 billion people, or 17% of the global population, speak a variety of Chinese as their first language.<a href="Chinese language - Wikipedia"><span>[</span>2<span>]</span></a>
However, their lack of mutual intelligibility means they are sometimes considered to be separate languages in a family.<a href="Chinese language - Wikipedia"><span>[</span>e<span>]</span></a>

Hi all.
I'm wondering what's going on with the reactions in the forums lately.

I noticed that all my Agree  reactions (both given and received) have apparently disappeared from all forums, and only the Thank you :thank you: reactions are still visible.
Also, the Like ❤️ reactions I received in the Culture Cafe now show up as Agree!

However, my reaction counter has not changed and shows the correct number of all three types. But strangely, when I try to view them, next to the Agree reactions, it says "Reactions" instead of "D'accordo" (Italian for "Agree").

Check out this screenshot from my phone:
reactions.jpg

Is this happening to others? How come no one noticed? Or was it already reported elsewhere?
I made some changes to the reactions recently to fix some issues.

I noticed that all my Agree  reactions (both given and received) have apparently disappeared from all forums, and only the Thank you :thank you: reactions are still visible.
Also, the Like ❤️ reactions I received in the Culture Cafe now show up as Agree!

I believe you are seeing the old images instead of the new images. A shift-reload or clearing your cache might fix it.

it says "Reactions" instead of "D'accordo" (Italian for "Agree").

I will need to adjust where it says "Reactions" and "Agree". I want it to say Reactions in threads and it should probably say Agree elsewhere.
I've just checked a thread where I remember having received lots of . None of them are visible any more.
Can you please link to the post so I can investigate.

I have put  for the previous two posts. Do you see them?
OK, I have reverted the changes that I made a couple of days ago.

I know of two problems:
1. The  given over the last two days will show as ❤️. This is unfortunate and I don't have a solution for that.
2. Clicking "Reactions" multiple times shows a ❤️ even in forums where the heart is not a choice, such as in this forum.

I hope to get #2 above fixed, but that will take some time.

If you notice any other problem with the reactions now, please let me know.
