Verruca vulgaris was diagnosed from a preoperative biopsy.
Although SCC can arise de novo and contain verrucoid features, confidence regarding the diagnosis of
verruca vulgaris is gained from the initial biopsy at the lesion edge which strongly appeared as a
verruca vulgaris and stained positively for an HPV capsid protein.
Histopathological examination of the lesion revealed papillary structures presenting with hyperkeratosis, hypergranulosis, elongated retes showing a tendency to converge towards the center on a large and flat ground, and koilocytes in the spinous layer and the lesion was determined to be consistent with
verruca vulgaris (Figure 2).
The only exception was
Verruca stroemia, where the RDS-5 is not exceptionally longer than the other RDS.
