Over the next fifteen years, with the help of a Kay Elemetrics
Sonograph in my studio (a fortuitous development), I was able to observe at least informally that in trained male singers, vowels "close" or "turn over" in a parallel relationship to the location of their first formant.
The acoustic analysis of the material was carried out at the Phonetic Laboratory at the University of Turku using the
sonograph Kay Elemetrics Corp.
This is mainly due to limited trained human resources and scarce availability of
sonographs and partly explains the delayed gestational age at diagnosis of the disease.
The inclusion of images with variant courses and atypical
sonographs ensures comprehensive coverage of this highly efficient diagnostic tool.
We stored the examinations images (
sonographs) and had them reread (validated) by a consultant radiologist.
