According to a NASA news thread called 'An
Iridescent Cloud Over Colorado', the vivid clouds appear when tiny ice crystals and water droplets linger around multiple clouds in the sky.
They left a glowing
iridescent cloud of gametes, sperm and eggs at the surface.
Experts have nicknamed cloud formations like this"fire rainbows" or "rainbow clouds", however they're scientific names are nacreous, mother-of-pearl or
iridescent clouds.
Thin

It is just one in a class of atmospheric phenomena that includes halos, coronas, glories,
iridescent clouds, and sunrise/ sunset effects.

iridescent clouds fill the sky, and cut squares and strands of gold and silver paper are scattered like pebbles and stalks on the ground.
But the amazing pastel light show is more likely to have been caused by polar stratospheric clouds, also called nacreous, mother-of-pearl or
iridescent clouds.
