Mearim
a river in northeastern Brazil. Length, approximately 800 km. The Mearim flows northward from the Brazilian Highlands, crossing the marshy Atlantic Coastal Plain and flowing into Sao Marcos Bay of the Atlantic Ocean, forming a common estuary with the Pindare River. It is full of rapids in its upper and middle course. It is fed by rain. Maximum water discharge is in April and May. The lower course of the Mearim is navigable.
