Goryn

a river in the western Ukrainian SSR and the Byelorussian SSR, a right tributary of the Pripiat’ River. Length, 659 km; basin area, 27,700 sq km. Its source is in the Kremenets Upland, and it flows at first through the Volyn’ Upland, for the most part in a narrow valley with high, steep slopes; later, it flows through Poles’e in an extensive swampy flood plain, marked by channels and old riverbeds. In its lower regions it passes through the Pinsk swamps. The average annual flow at its mouth is 90 cu m per sec. Its largest tributary is the Sluch’ (from the right). It is used to float timber and is navigable from David-Gorodok. The cities of Iziaslav, Slavuta, Dubrovitsa, Stolin, and David-Gorodok lie on the Goryn’.
