The squinch predates Islam in the Near East

So Islamic people can't have invented it.

Near Eastern people may or may not have been the first to use it - but certainly it was in use before 600 A.D. I'll find a reference. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Levalley (talkcontribs)

San Giovanni photo

Unlike the other two photos, the painting and lighting in "Squinch in the Baptistery of San Giovanni in Fonte, Italy" makes it quite unclear where the squinch is. I suggest to simply delete this picture. Викидим (talk) 07:11, 16 December 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
