After so many good movies you directed, you came with such a garbage like "Walking Dead" it is sick, I don't think it should be broadcasted by any station at all. It is a shame!!! Expecialy for young kids. from Joe Smidrkal

Script doctor

Let's use the actual term, as most readers read that when someone 'doctors' with something, it isn't considered a good thing. Since there is a negative connotation associated with the shortened form of the term easily resolved by using the formal term - and this is in fact a BLP - we should opt to not even unintentionally disparage the subject of the article. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 17:32, 2 September 2011 (UTC) [reply ]

Indeed. Let's use the actual term: script doctor--the term used in the industry for writers who are brought in to address issues with an existent playscript or screenplay. The terms 'script doctor' and 'play doctor' have in fact been used for decades in reference to this individual. Your assumption of what 'most readers' think when reading the text reflects simply that: your own assumption. If you'll check the actual dictionary definition of 'doctor' as a transitive verb you'll see that the usage that concerns you is the least common suggested by the word, falling beneath, tellingly, 'to adapt or modify for a desired end by alteration or special treatment <doctored the play to suit the audience>'. (OED is here.) Why on earth should one assume that the reader will likely choose a less common semantic usage, while also violating the manner in which the term is normally employed? When referring to work on script, 'doctor' is simply not used to indicate some type of insidious machinations. Would you similarly ask to change the first word in 'petty officer' out of concern that 'the average reader will think this sailor is not important'? Yes, let's work this out on the talk page--which is why I'm restoring the entry to its state before the disagreement commenced. I've reverted it again, and I am going to ask that you don't revert a fourth time - it was bold to add it, and it was removed. As per BRD, your very next task is to come here and argue convincingly for a change. Because I gotta tell you, simply reverting it back in isn't going to work with me. Just sayin'. And not to be a bot confrontational, but the only two editors working this article currently are you and I. One person does not a consensus make.
Now, any reasonable person would argue that "doctoring" with anything is not to be considered a good thing (ie. "to tamper with; falsify", as in He doctored the birthdate on his passport. or, "to add a foreign substance to; adulterate" Someone had doctored the drink.)
Granted there are other definitions, but this article is a special base - it is the Biography of a Living Person. Any content that could be mistakenly construed for negative bias is to be excised immediately. Were it an article about say, script doctoring, we wouldn't have to exercise greater care; no one is directly affected by a poorly phrased article.
We;ve started the process of talking about this to square away the problem. If you want to ask around for people willing to share their experience, I'm all for it. That is how actual consensus is built. Consider me unconvinced as to your view point: if there is any disparaging info in a BLP, it must be explicitly sourced. Since the disparagement here is unintentional, we need to point out to the reader that its an actual term, and not just use a term with negative connotations and wikilink it. not french born

born in france =/= french-born

After the uprising in 1956 approx 200,000 people fled Hungary. Most of them stayed in refugee camps all over Europe for months/years until they get asylum and papers from a 3rd country. Frank Darabont just happened to be born while his family was waiting in a refugee camp to get into the US. That does not make him french-born. He does not speak french, he does not hold french citizenship, he does not have any french ancestors. If someone is visiting France for any reason and she gives birth to a baby while being there, the baby is going to be french-born by default? I don't think so. Thousands of Hungarian babies were born in refugee camps all over Europe following the 1956 uprising but that does not make them Austrian-born, German-born, Swedish-born etc.

'French-born' should be removed as he is simply a Hungarian American - Parents are Hungarians from Hungary who fled to the US (through France) where Frank was raised and lived all his life. He just happened to be born while his parents were in France.

I do not revert you this time, however, French-born, Austrian-born, Hungaian-born etc. systematically means in which country the subject was born, not necessarily ethnicity, thus you argumentations flaws.(KIENGIR (talk) 13:05, 24 November 2019 (UTC))[reply ]
