  I'll add more comments eventually. By the way, I recommend news sources to supplement ref 3 (the "National Archives of Singapore" interviews).   Have addressed your new points and also expanded the article with Weintraub et al. Regarding the use of the NAS interview, it is the only source where I found such information so I can't really replace it.   @Actuall7 I see. The article now passes the GA criteria. You can add literal translations to non-Malay words following MOS:MOS, and you can look for a free image in your leisure. Personally, I find the HMV executive teaching Asiah how to open a bank account, Asiah's singing for Japanese soldiers, or her age and reaction to receiving the Cultural Medallion interesting.
