Lead Sentence: Reality TV Personality vs. Content Creator and Cardiac Nurse

[edit ]

I'd like to open a discussion about the article's first sentence, which has recently been edited multiple times to include "content creator" and "cardiac nurse" alongside "reality television personality."

It currently reads: "Amaya Elizabeth Espinal... is an American reality television personality, content creator and cardiac nurse."

I believe this should be revised to: "Amaya Elizabeth Espinal... is an American reality television personality."

Here's why:

  • Per WP:OPENPARABIO, the lead sentence of a biography should state the subject’s main reason for notability, not attempt to list every occupation or side role, especially if not reflected in reliable sources. Espinal's notability is clearly established as a reality television personality, specifically through her appearance and win on Love Island USA . This is supported by over half of the article's references, which directly link her name with Love Island in their titles. Some examples:
  • Rolling Stone : "People's Princess Amaya Papaya, Late Breakups, Nicolandria: Fans React to 'Love Island' Finale."[1]
  • Variety : "'Love Island USA' Winners Amaya and Bryan on Where Their Relationship Goes Next and Confronting Austin and Zak at the Reunion."[2]
  • The Hollywood Reporter : "Google Celebrates Amaya "Papaya" Espinal After Winning 'Love Island USA' With Bryan Arenales."[3]
  • NBC : "How Love Island USA's Amaya Espinal Dropped a Viral Song without Leaving Fiji."[4]
  • "Cardiac nurse" is already mentioned in the article's body (under Early life and career) and infobox, but per WP:LEADWEIGHT, the lead sentence should include what is most significant to the subject's notability. Since her nursing career isn't a defining part of her public profile, giving it equal weight in the lead is undue.
  • "Content creator" is not mentioned or sourced in the body. Per WP:V, WP:BLP, and WP:LEAD, unsourced descriptors about living people should not appear in the lead. Even with a future source, inclusion would still depend — again per WP:LEADWEIGHT — on whether "content creator" reflects a notable part of Espinal's public identity, which it currently does not.

In the meantime, I've reverted the change until we can reach a consensus here. Thoughts? Kilokiln (talk) 11:12, 22 July 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

Agree that first sentence should be what she is known for which is for being a television personality not being a nurse or content creator Austin2626 (talk) 03:53, 29 July 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
