Version Control System
Hi, I was wondering if you had a copy of AnomieBOT's code available in some kind of proper version control system like Git or if not, how would the best and easiest way to reconstruct the source locally with history in a more or less clean way. -- NotKlea (talk) 23:03, 10 April 2026 (UTC) Reply

- Yes, I am aware that User:AnomieBOT/source exists, although I was wondering if it was in a proper VCS, like Git, or Subversion, since extracting the full change history seems hard to do from MediaWiki, and it doesn't allow you to modify more than one page at once, so I have to assume that every-time the files changed they changed along with the ChangeLog and the files weren't modified more times than the ChangeLog to get the full change list. --NotKlea (talk) 19:37, 13 May 2026 (UTC) Reply
Re: Cái Bè
Anomiebot was there to clean up after this edit, but it hasn't replaced the web citation template to Cite web. even if it dictates Cite web as a redirect but bot could have replaced template because most users are compatible with Cite web. Also it could have replaced {{Note from the newspaper}} to Cite news.––KEmel49(📝,📋) 18:14, 6 May 2026 (UTC) Reply
- Template:Chú thích web is in Category:Wikipedia templates to be automatically substituted, which is what that bot task handles. Those other templates are not. Anomie ⚔ 23:32, 6 May 2026 (UTC) Reply
Disabling TagDater for a specific case
I forget which bot has a hidden comment syntax where you can disable the bot just for the line in which the comment appears, but it is a really handy feature. I was wondering if the TagDater has that ability? I would like to disable it for just one case. Mathglot (talk) 02:48, 14 May 2026 (UTC) Reply
- The TagDater task only applies to pages in mainspace and pages transcluded into pages in mainspace. What exactly is the case where you think a template shouldn't have a proper date added? Anomie ⚔ 11:21, 14 May 2026 (UTC) Reply
Wrong license on Commons transfer
The file Unity (Credit Union) logo.jpg was automatically moved to Commons after a template suggesting it was placed on it. However, it was given a CC-BY-SA 4.0 license tag without explanation. The Wikipedia version of the image was initially considered a non-free logo, but I placed a PD-simple on it. I'm not sure where this CC license came from. --Gert7 (talk · contribs) 10:01, 20 May 2026 (UTC) Reply
- It appears that you're referring to this edit of yours to File:Unity Credit Union (NZ) logo.jpg, followed by this bot edit? It looks like User:Classictypewriter uploaded the Commons version first (2026年05月20日T01:07:05Z) with the CC license, then re-uploaded it here under the different name a few minutes later (2026年05月20日T01:33:23Z). There does not appear to have been any automatic transfer; AnomieBOT only noted the duplicate that already existed under a different name. You'd have to ask that editor where the CC license came from Anomie ⚔ 11:02, 20 May 2026 (UTC) Reply
Stop vandalizing my edit
Yo can you please stop making my article bad, like that article that you are messing up is 2xrakai, and like stop doing that. I’m trying to make my article look good, but nooo, I have someone who is messing it up. Please stop doing this Constrayevan (talk) 14:57, 25 May 2026 (UTC) Reply
- You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of the situation. I suspect you actually meant to complain at the person who cleaned up some of your WP:PUFFERY and WP:DUE issues, rather than the bot that added a date to a citation needed tag. Anomie ⚔ 16:54, 25 May 2026 (UTC) Reply
Change of protection level
I lowered the protection of Template:Hamas to extended-confirmed. The request on Template talk:Hamas has the correct category Category:Wikipedia extended-confirmed-protected edit requests but it is still listed on User:AnomieBOT/TPERTable and is not listed on User:AnomieBOT/EPERTable. The link from the TPERTable does not work because it has anchor #edittemplateprotected instead of #editextendedprotected. Did I do something wrong? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:53, 4 June 2026 (UTC) Reply
- I think the problem is that the categorization hasn't gotten updated yet: the talk page is still present in Category:Wikipedia template-protected edit requests and not in Category:Wikipedia extended-confirmed-protected edit requests (note that's going by the category listing pages, not the boxes at the bottom of Template talk:Hamas itself; more specifically, it's what's in the database
categorylinkstable). Once MediaWiki gets around to updating that, the bot should move it over. A (null) edit to the talk page might help that happen. Anomie ⚔ 11:28, 4 June 2026 (UTC) Reply- That makes sense. I've performed a null edit and it is in the right category now. I wonder why that didn't happen as soon as I saved the new template (which was after the protection level changed)? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:32, 4 June 2026 (UTC) Reply
- That I have no idea. Maybe there's a cache or a similar asynchronous update somewhere in MediaWiki's protection level lookup via wikitext/Scribunto, so the parse after that edit didn't see the protection level change yet. Or maybe the job queue just lost the update somehow. Anomie ⚔ 11:36, 4 June 2026 (UTC) Reply

British Midland Airways dates
Derby Aviation was estabilished in 1949 out of Air Schools assets and evolved into.... Derby Airways was estabilished in 1959 which changed name to British Midland Airways in 1964
Is this clear enough? Settignano (talk) 06:47, 8 June 2026 (UTC) Reply
British Midland again!
Why are you interfering while I'm still proofreading?
Besides me there are two Wikipedians proofreading this page at the same time! Settignano (talk) 08:30, 8 June 2026 (UTC) Reply
- This is a bot 🤦♀️
- It’s literally in the name.........
- And for the umpteenth time - there is no such thing as "interference" - you do not own any page. Danners430 tweaks made 08:39, 8 June 2026 (UTC) Reply
Code request
Howdy Anomie! So stumbled across one of your scripts. First of all, holy CRAP you've written a lot of awesome code. Long story short, hoping to clean up User:AnomieBOT/TPERTable a tiny bit so it doesn't word wrap so much. Tried here but didn't realize the bot recreates the entire page (which in hindsight makes more sense) and not just the table.
Anyway, can this can be easily implemented by changing:
$txt.=qq(! Tagged since\n); for my $col (@$cols) { $txt.=sprintf( "! %s\n", $knowncols{$col} ); } $txt.=qq(! Protection level\n);
on User:AnomieBOT/source/tasks/PERTableUpdater.pm to:
$txt.=qq(!style="width:125px"| Tagged since\n); for my $col (@$cols) { $txt.=sprintf( "! %s\n", $knowncols{$col} ); } $txt.=qq(!style="width:150px"| Protection level\n);
Any chance you could make that happen? Thanks a mil! Zackmann (Talk to me /What I been doing ) 05:25, 10 June 2026 (UTC) Reply
- I'll give it some thought. I'm a bit wary of adding fixed widths, as it may have unexpected effects in browsers with different window and font sizes. If I do add something, I'd be more likely to base it on
chunits thanpx, and maybe set it up with classes rather than inline styles so CSS can adjust for different window sizes. Anomie ⚔ 17:35, 10 June 2026 (UTC) Reply- I 100% defer to your expertise here. Just food for thought. Keep up the great work! Zackmann (Talk to me /What I been doing ) 17:42, 10 June 2026 (UTC) Reply

Orphan Rescue
Is there a way to ping Anomie to an article with orphaned tags, to search connected articles and "rescue" it? Few times a year I see the need. New Yathrib - Fundy Historian (talk) 01:29, 14 June 2026 (UTC) Reply
Labelling as bot edits
Just out of curiosity, would it make sense to start labelling AB edits as bot edits, so they can be filtered on watchlists? Danners430 tweaks made 11:53, 6 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
- Edits that humans should review should not be labeled as bot edits. Which edits, specifically, are you concerned with? Anomie ⚔ 22:26, 6 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
- Oh it's not a concern - was just a thought/suggestion really - I would have thought that edits like the dating of maintenance tags and rescuing of orphaned references (I know that's not all the functions, but the ones I think are least controversial) wouldn't need human review? I don't know enough, just throwing the idea out that's all :) Danners430 tweaks made 04:14, 7 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
- Maintenance tag dating edits are already labeled as 'bot' (and minor). Orphan reference rescuing should be reviewed, IMO, because it's reasonable that the rescued ref might need further attention. For example, the original ref removal might have been vandalism, or it may have been intentional but incomplete, or the bot may even have found a wrong ref somewhere. Anomie ⚔ 11:00, 7 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
- You're correct, apologies - I forgot that the bot edit tag only appears on watchlists, not diffs or histories, and so missed that the datings are labelled as bot edits. A timely reminder not to Wikipedia before caffeine!
- And aye, agreed with regards orphan references - I for one use it a lot when I'm cleaning up unreliable sources, and sometimes miss a named ref... AB rescuing it tells me that I missed it! Danners430 tweaks made 11:09, 7 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

TemplateSubster: Template:Afd notice has too many transclusions
[画像:Nota bene]* Note that TFD substitutions should now be done via User:AnomieBOT/TFDTemplateSubster rather than by (ab)using TemplateSubster!
In an effort to prevent disruption, I refuse to subst templates that have over 100 transclusions unless they are listed at User:AnomieBOT/TemplateSubster force. Please either edit the template to remove it from Category:Wikipedia templates to be automatically substituted, manually subst the existing transclusions, or add it to User:AnomieBOT/TemplateSubster force to let me know it is OK to subst them. When you have fixed this issue, please change the section title (e.g. append " - Fixed") or remove this section completely. I will repost the notice if the page is still broken or is re-broken. It looks like Bomb Queen VI: Oh-BOMB-Ah! was created or adopted by the EnDashRedirectCreator task and should probably no longer exist (i.e. no corresponding en-dashed title seems to exist anymore), but instead of being deleted the User:AnomieBOT/Auto-G8 template's target has been incorrectly changed. Please look into this. When you have fixed this issue, please change the section title (e.g. append " - Fixed") or remove this section completely.
