Object history Die vordere Schildhälfte ist das geminderte Wappen der Herren von Stiebar, Dienstleute der Herren von Schlüsselberg, die erstmals 1304 erwähnt werden und 1762 erloschen. Sie waren in Buttenheim ansässig und hatten Grundbesitz, Gericht und die Dorfherrschaft inne. Ihr Wappen war geteilt von Silber und Schwarz, aus der Teilungslinie wuchs eine rote Schweinsfeder mit goldener Querstange. Die Farben Rot und Silber der hinteren Schildhälfte sind die Farben des Hochstifts Bamberg, das im Ort ebenfalls begütert war und hier einen Amtmann eingesetzt hatte. Das blaue Messer ist das Attribut des heiligen Bartholomäus, dem die Kirche in Buttenheim geweiht ist.
