Why was the page for AFGL 4106 moved?

[edit ]
Latest comment: 1 month ago 6 comments2 people in discussion

AFGL 4106 seems to be the more commonly used designation, so I don't understand why it was moved to HD 302821. Lobed Homunculus 12:58, 19 June 2026 (UTC) Reply

No, I think the star is called HD 302821 while the nebula is called AFGL 4106 that's why i had moved Abdullah1099 (talk) 12:59, 19 June 2026 (UTC) Reply
What makes you think that? Most of the papers about this system refer to the stars as AFGL 4106. Lobed Homunculus 13:07, 19 June 2026 (UTC) Reply
Sorry for moving i will move it back to it's original form Abdullah1099 (talk) 13:22, 19 June 2026 (UTC) Reply
ok Lobed Homunculus 13:23, 19 June 2026 (UTC) Reply
My reasoning for move was that AFGL and RAFGL are used more for Nebula and HD is used more for star and SIMBAD also used the HD designation but i forgot that AFGL designation was more popular for the star than HD Abdullah1099 (talk) 13:34, 19 June 2026 (UTC) Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Sh2-29

[edit ]
Latest comment: 1 month ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

A tag has been placed on Sh2-29 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

I expanded a lot, and it should be close to publication ready. I do need to get back on building that star-chart locator map, which stalled out when I realized that the P3-generated ones were poorly centered, and the parameters were poorly calibrated to the IAU ones (probably due to the large margins). –LaundryPizza03 (d ) 06:11, 20 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
Thanks you very much @LaundryPizza03, I will finish the article soon and move it from draft Abdullah1099 (talk) 06:15, 20 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

WHY

WHY DID YOU REQUEST SPEEDY DELETION ON MY ARTICLE 1E 2259+586 ??? AQ7-8 TheFrostyAstronomer 125 (talk) 15:43, 18 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

Don't panic bro, I just moved the article into Draft:1E 2259+58.6 for more work as it clearly not ready as article, thus the article part is blank thus making it eligible for speedy deletion. If you want to improve the article then you can improve the draft and after completing it you may return it to as article. Abdullah1099 (talk) 15:49, 18 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
Bro! There was nothing wrong! It was declined 3 times and the 4th it was ACCEPTED BY SULFURBOY AND YOU HAD TO RUIN IT ALL : UNDO THIS ACTION AQ7-8 TheFrostyAstronomer 125 (talk) 15:52, 18 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
Can you simply tell me what you mean by "1E 2259+586 magnetar has abrupt slowdowns in rotation, which is called an anti-glitch, in contrast to the more common glitches seen in pulsars." Abdullah1099 (talk) 16:05, 18 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
plus 1E 2259+58.6 IS NOT THE CORRECT NAME OF THE ARTICLE : IT HAS NO DOT AQ7-8 TheFrostyAstronomer 125 (talk) 15:52, 18 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
Please read the SIMBAD page on the system Abdullah1099 (talk) 15:54, 18 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
@AQ7-8 TheFrostyAstronomer 125: This is a celestial coordinate name. "B2259" means a right ascension of 22h 59m (344.75°) in B1950 epoch. +58.6 is the declination of the star in degrees. (In degrees and arcminutes, it would be written as +5836, which means +58° 36.) I'd say this page shouldn't have been moved, since declinations expressed as degrees with one decimal place are often abbreviated in sky-coordinate names without the decimal point, like the white dwarf WD 1145+017.
As for anti-glitch, it is explained at Neutron_star#Anti-glitches. –LaundryPizza03 (d ) 02:30, 20 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
Sorry @LaundryPizza03, But when i see SIMBAD database and the star is given designation 1E 2259+58.6, I thought it was some mistake that it was written with designation 1E 2259+586 that why i renamed it to 1E 2259+58.6 during moving it to draft. Abdullah1099 (talk) 05:23, 20 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
I'll just leave it there and probably publish it without the decimal point. You can help, too; this user seems to have trouble with WP:OVERLINK and parsing statements in references. –LaundryPizza03 (d ) 06:20, 20 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
I think the article need a rewriting before publishing. Because it has more studies than used is used in the drafts. I am interested in helping in the draft. Yeah, reagarding the draft, the user need some experience. Abdullah1099 (talk) 07:09, 20 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
But in case of WD 1145+017, Simbad also calls it WD 1145+017 not WD 1145+01.7 Abdullah1099 (talk) 10:17, 20 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

Articles for Creation backlog drive

Latest comment: 16 days ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

Hello Abdullah1099:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in August!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than a month of outstanding reviews from the current 3+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 August 2026 through 31 August 2026.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 5000 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:36, 19 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited M31-2014-DS1, a link pointing to the disambiguation page MIRI was added.

Hi Abdullah1099. Thank you for your work on Sh 2-174. Another editor, TouchedWithFire, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

Hi! writing this here , because I don't know where else to write it and I would like to prevent later confusion. The article has no copyvio issues according to Earwig and a manual check. However, according to one of the copyvio detectors 78.38% of the edit was copied from https://www.astrobin.com/1jaqbk/. As said before, this appears to be a mistake.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|TouchedWithFire}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

TouchedWithFire (talk) 07:28, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

@TouchedWithFire, I think it's a system mistake as i re-write the whole article after translating it from Italian Wikipedia. Abdullah1099 (talk) 08:02, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
@Abdullah1099 Yes. I understand and agree. I mentioned it just to prevent any confusion in the future. TouchedWithFire (talk) 08:31, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
Good, But i think it's not even copyvio as the user @Roberto Mura (as i call him Italian astronomy Wikipedia legend) has written it in 2009 while astrobin one is from 2021. Abdullah1099 (talk) 10:45, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
Another article that i got copyvio atleast two times is VdB 158. It's unfortunate @Roberto Mura article nowadays are found as copyvio. They are not copyvio as they are created way before the website that are marked as copyvio Abdullah1099 (talk) 10:46, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
@all here: what has all this to do with me? :) :D I mean, I wrote these articles back in 2009-2011, in italian Wikipedia, using as references the links and the notes I reported in the note section, as part of an extensive effort by me to bring all Sh2 and vdB nebulae in Wikipedia. There were no "astrobin" stuff back then. @User:TouchedWithFire it appears quite more obvious that some users on other sites took content from it.wikipedia (since pages like Sh2-274 and vdB 158 did not probably have english version), translated that and used that. And now we're reporting this contest by me as copyviol because it appeared later on another site. Interesting and somewhat fun. :D Roberto Segnali all'Indiano 11:57, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
@Roberto Mura bro, It about some articles when translated from Italian Wikipedia to English, the copyvio occurs when technically there shouldn't be any copyvio as those articles is from 2009 or so almost a decade ago before astrobin. It's quite an interesting thing Abdullah1099 (talk) 12:06, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
@Abdullah1099 thanks for having made me aware of that. :) Roberto Segnali all'Indiano 11:59, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
Thanks @Roberto Mura for your response. But another unique thing i found is there are many DSS images on Commons uploaded by you under a CC-BY-SA 4.0 license examples: File:NGC 6633 DSS.png, File:NGC 5822 DSS.png. I just want to know @Roberto Mura that did you got permissions for upload DSS images on Commons from the owners of DSS. Abdullah1099 (talk) 12:13, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
@Abdullah1099, @Roberto Mura Let me be clear, I was in no way accusing anyone of copyvio, on the contrary. I was pointing out for any future reviewer that the copyvio detector that claimed there was a violation made a mistake, and both Earwig and a manual check prove as much. I'm sorry I wasn't clearer from the start. TouchedWithFire (talk) 12:59, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
Sorry @TouchedWithFire, But i was just explaining the situation to @Roberto Mura and was not intended for accusing anyone for copyvio Abdullah1099 (talk) 13:02, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
Yup nobody is accusing of copyviol, I was just pointing out that this situation got a bit funny.
Speaking of DSS images, yes it was a mistake by me dated about 2009. They can be hosted on Wikipedia locally but not on Commons, under "fair use". While Caltech and other institutions stated we're allowed to use their images in Wikipedia, Commons could not accept these images due to CC-NC clausole. Images from DSS can be used on en.wiki under fair use, and on other wikis using this specific template (here is a version in italian). I managed to get a permission from them in late 2009. All DSS images hosted in Commons should be backported to local wikis and after that they can be deleted from Commons. Roberto Segnali all'Indiano 15:11, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
@Roberto Mura, this means i can move all the Commons ones to English Wikipedia articles where they are needed, I also want to know can i upload the Italian ones to English Wikipedia and can you help in transferring the DSS template to English Wikipedia of DSS that you have made in the Italian Wikipedia. Abdullah1099 (talk) 15:21, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
Yes you can upload them to en.wiki, but you don't really need that template: specifying "fair use" is enough for en.wiki, which has a dedicated policy for such cases. Roberto Segnali all'Indiano 15:26, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
Ok, Thanks @Roberto Mura for the information. Abdullah1099 (talk) 15:39, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
@Roberto Mura, I also want to know did you backported all the DSS images that is deleted from Commons to Italian Wikipedia. As DSS images are regularly put under deletion in a monthly basis Abdullah1099 (talk) 15:47, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
Nope, some are still lingering around, but shouldn't be too many. Roberto Segnali all'Indiano 17:33, 30 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
