A2: As it says in the lead sentence which defines the scope of the article, the Holocaust "was the genocide of European Jews during World War II". As explained elsewhere in the lead and body, "Separate Nazi persecutions killed millions of other non-Jewish civilians and prisoners of war (POWs)". As also explained in the lead and the body, "the term Holocaust is sometimes used to refer to the persecution of these other groups"; such uses of the term Holocaust constitute "significant minority views" as explained in Wikipedia's WP:NPOV policy. The sentence attributing 5.7 million Jewish deaths to ‘Germans and Romanians’ may be misleading, as it could imply only those groups were involved. Could this be rephrased for clarity?

Romanians did contribute to jewish deaths in the Holocaust,but this current wording can definitely be misleading as readers can assume that romanians killed millions of jews,which is not true. Alex270202 (talk) 17:51, 30 June 2026 (UTC) Reply

The current wording says Around six million Jews were killed, with a conservative estimate being 5.7 million Jews killed by the Germans and Romanians, of which 5.4 million were killed under Nazi occupation.
The source says About 5.7 million Jewish civilians had been murdered by the Germans and Romanians, of whom some 2.6 million were Soviet citizens in 1941.
The source does not seem to say anything about this being a "conservative estimate".
In my view, there is no danger of readers taking this sentence to mean that Romanians killed millions of Jews. Mikewem (talk) 20:31, 30 June 2026 (UTC) Reply

There are no doubt political and ideological pressures that aim to privatise the term for the sole purpose of describing the murder of Jews in Europe in the 1940s. But Wikipedia's goals, as I understand them, don't include allowing its pages to be 'coloured' with a tint of this or that ideology or political interest. It's meant to be neutral, descriptive and truthful - am I wrong? If "The Nazi Holocaust" or "The Holocaust", perpetrated during the German Nazi era, means anything, it's the organised murder of anyone who wasn't ethnically, religiously, politically, physically, or mentally fit from the Nazi point of view. The Jews, as a religious group, were a significant part, but only a part, of the Nazi purification project. To sweep all the other victims aside and try to mold a certain view of history whilst obscuring large parts of the picture goes directly against Wikipedia's raison d'être, and hence, is wrong and needs to be rectified. I suggest you read the FAQ on this talk page. Also read the scope and terminology section of the article provides context for how most scholars define the Holocaust . All persecuted groups were not persecuted for the same reason or in a systemmatic way as it was for the Jews. Jewish persecution was the foundation for Holocaust, not any other group. Still, ahe article already includes numerous material on non-Jewish victims, but more comprehensively Victims of Nazi Germany is more detailed on all the different types victims.
