Cleanup

[edit ]

This article is faulty in many respects (for details see my talk page). I will work on it as soon as my time will permit to do so but not being a native English speaker that will require some time. For those wiki-users with knowledge of the German language the respective (in fact very short) German wikipedia article is recommended for translation.--KuK 15:39, 18 March 2006 (UTC) [reply ]

As nobody else has corrected the various mistakes and mix-ups in this article I have at least taken out the wrong and irrelevant stuff. There is much more to be reported about the RMA but I am not in the position to do this. Some remarks about my corrections and deletions:

  • RMA vs. present Marineamt: The RMA was a government department, similar to a ministry of the navy in other country. It was led by the State Secretary of the Navy (Staatssekretär des Reichsmarineamts) who had the same standing as other government members such as the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs (Staatssekretär des Auswärtigen Amts) as the German foreign minister was called. The RMA was in fact the High Command of the Navy. This form of a government with secretaries as department heads is very similar to the government of the US. The present Marineamt is a authority subordinate to the Ministry of Defence, responsible for materiell and personell of the navy. It has neither a political nor an operational function. So there is little in common concerning their role and function.
  • Engeneering officers: The information about technical careers in the navy is irrelevant in the RMA article. It concerned the engeneering officers in general, not just the RMA. Also given the RMA's above mentioned main function as the High Command this information is not relevant for the subject. It tends to reduce the role of the RMA to a construction bureau which is not correct.
  • Reichsmarine, Kriegsmarine: The deleted information about the Reichsmarine and the Kriegsmarine had no relevance to the RMA but was trying to construct a link to the present Marineamt which is misleading as lined out above.
