The pictures in the most popular edition of Loteria are iconic and old. I am not sure how old. The articles says these were printed in the 1880s. I expect they have been updated. It would be nice to include a history here of editions, and if possible, to get a public domain edition into Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:47, 16 March 2015 (UTC) [reply ]

Catholicism and Loteria

[edit ]

I've added a reference to a website that details the connection between Don Clemente's loteria card deck/game boards to the Major Arcana of the Tarot. Trying to be respectful of others' beliefs, I think it's not fair to assume that the alternative version was only a way to promote Catholic beliefs - it's just as likely that it was done to allow devout people a way to play a popular game without the divination context. That said - I'd like to know more about the Catholic version, and haven't been able to find much more detail or pictures of that version - perhaps someone else can add detail? --47.185.113.159 (talk) 15:54, 21 April 2021 (UTC) [reply ]

Loteria online game - ad?

[edit ]

To me, the reference to the online game sounded like an ad placement; I added some language to try and situate it in context of technology. Can we add a list of other versions or, maybe better, an "In popular culture" section? --47.185.113.159 (talk) 15:54, 21 April 2021 (UTC) [reply ]

Latin game?

[edit ]

Shouldn't it be Latin American game, Latin is a reference to something from Lazio/Latium, while if something is from Mexico it's from Latin America. --Hoang the Hoangest (talk) 02:45, 14 August 2015 (UTC) [reply ]

Cards and Riddles

[edit ]

I made changes a few days ago, and they were reverted by a bot. I've reported the false positive and made the revision, including the recent edit by jacqke. Some of the nuances in the translations were off, and some were just inaccurate. A "bandolon" is not exactly the same as a mandolin, for example. It is a type of lute used in Mariachi, and is an instrument in its own right. I hope the revisions stay, because I am a real person, and I am not a vandal as implied in the report, thank you.Solar3939 (talk) 06:44, 18 September 2015 (UTC) [reply ]

The first time I made this edit, it was reverted by a bot, and I was asked to read up on why, to report a false positive, as it is, and to make the revision again, and again it was reverted. My edits are genuine and constructive, I can't quite understand what the problem is.Solar3939 (talk) 06:49, 18 September 2015 (UTC) [reply ]

Translation: Cards and associated verses

[edit ]

I am a native Spanish speaker. I made a correction regarding a homonym in Spanish. The person who wrote the section " Cards and associated verses" translated the sentence "El paraguas: Para el sol y para el agua" as "The umbrella: For the sun and for the water". I left the original translation and I added an alternate translation next to it. The word "para" in Spanish is a homonym, with at least 18 uses:

[1]

One of the uses is an instance of the verb "parar", which means "to stop". That was the alternate translation that I suggested.

When I received the refusal for my change, I decided to explore further and check where "paraguas" comes from. I found it in the following page:

[2]

It is actually from the word "stop" and "water", matching my suggestion.

I received the following message:

May 2020[edit] Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to Lotería, did not appear constructive and has been reverted. Thank you. --Killarnee (T•1•2) 22:46, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

I find it unfair that my correction was completely dismissed, even though instead of adding an alternate translation, I should have replaced the existing one completely, because it is not accurate, etymologically.

I just wanted to make a tiny contribution. I think that if we all make small contributions wherever we have some knowledge, we will improve the accuracy of pages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.117.231.174 (talk) 08:07, 18 May 2020 (UTC) [reply ]
