It seems from the books I'm reading (i. e., McKenzie's Dictionary of the Bible, New Jerome Biblical Commentary) that it is Albright's—not Thiele's—dates that are accepted for Jeroboam II. Hence, 786–746 B. C. But, I'm open to further evidence that Thiele's view is not the dominant oneMwidunn (talk) 08:43, 10 October 2019 (UTC)mwidunn[reply ]

Euphemsims

I had to leave this page, and go and an article about Hebrew naming customs, to be able to understand this sentence:

"Under Jeroboam II, HaShem was worshiped at Dan and Beth-el and at other old Israelitish shrines"

It sounds as if the people of Israel at this time are worshipping some non-Jewish god.

Here, the word 'HaShem' apparently means "the name", and is being used to refer to Jehova/God, because among some groups there is a taboo on naming God. But I don't believe such taboos have any bearing on how Wikipedia expresses itself, which is about making accurate information accessible. So I think "HaShem" should be replaced with "Jehova". Nationality

The thumbnail when this article pops up in the search bar says "Israeli monarch." This is inaccurate. It should be "Israelite monarch." There is no such thing as an "Israeli monarch," because the adjective Israeli only applies to the State that was founded in 1948, which has never had a system of monarchy. Anyone who identified as being from Israel prior to the Christian era was an Israelite, not an Israeli.Jonathan Markoff (talk) 09:20, 22 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
