Great Western Railway
[edit ]"The Great Western Railway station at nearby Marshfield serves Castleton." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gareth Griffith-Jones (talk • contribs) 09:07, 28 November 2011 (UTC) [reply ]
- This is what I know from my childhood and youth.
- Please read Gareth Griffith-Jones to understand my connection with the area.
- My question is: 'Did "Beeching" close the station in the sixties?'

- You might find this page of interest. It says that the station closed in 1959, i.e. pre-Beeching Axe. But it does not say why, and I'm not sure how reliable a source that is. Maybe this detail, if verified, could be added to the Marshfield article? Martinevans123 (talk) 22:29, 2 December 2011 (UTC) [reply ]
- There is some background here - "In 1959 the British Railways applied for the withdrawal of passenger facilities from Marshfield Station...." Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:37, 3 December 2011 (UTC) [reply ]

- I have just expanded this to include the Severn Tunnel, 1959, and The Beeching Report.
